look, that's what's fun about dating....u don't know. ask him to a movie or something. if dating was easy and knowing if that person liked you back it really wouldn't be all that fun to begin with. Keep it simple and ask him whats really going on. You'll know your answer even if he doesnt say anything.

I mean these are all factors that should influence your move.
If you find him starring at you, or if he casually touches you maybe he likes you and during a conversation you should ask him out but not in a direct way yet.
Be like: Do you want to go out on such day....with me and(someone else) Ask you're friend if she can leave early that day and leave you two alone and you'll get to know his view of you better.
just go up to him and ask if he wants to go out with u.
